Plasma Pen and Microchanneling at Beautique Newburyport

Does Microchanneling Hurt?

With minimal physical discomfort, most clients are able to do the procedure without numbing cream and without any noticeable pain. There is no lingering discomfort, and we have a number of strategies we employ to minimize discomfort during treatment. Post-procedure, most people report a “tight” feeling in their skin.

What skin conditions will this help with?

Microchanneling treatments can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, stretch marks, and rosacea.

Who can do this treatment?

As ProCell microchanneling treatments are minimally invasive, they are also safe for all skin types. Whether you are fair-skinned or dark, and even if you experience chronic breakouts, properly conducted microchanneling treatments will not result in hyperpigmentation, keloid scars, or other lasting negative side effects.

What's in the serum?

ProCell’s Microchannel Delivery Serum contains bone marrow-derived growth factors in a hyaluronic acid suspension. Both of these elements are naturally-occurring in the human body. There are no human, animal, or plant cells, DNA, blood, or any other foreign substances. The product has been used safely and effectively for over a decade.

How long before I can expect to see results?

Though neocollagenesis (the production of new collagen) can take several weeks, it is not abnormal to notice an improvement in the quality and appearance of your skin within the first 24 hours. After 2-3 treatments a thicker more robust, collagen filled cellular matrix will produce more consistent and noticeable improvement. And 6 or more treatments may be recommended for scarring, laxity and wrinkles.

Are there any contraindications?

If you have any underlying condition that significantly impairs your immune system, it is a good idea to avoid microchanneling. Examples include but are not limited to active radiation or chemotherapy, uncontrolled diabetes, chronic inflammatory skin disease, Accutane in the past 2 years, hemophilia or similar bleeding disorder. Also anyone with stainless steel allergies should not do this treatment. We also discourage treatments for those who are pregnant or nursing.

HOW DOES PLASMA PEN SKIN TIGHTENING WORK?

The Plasma Pen Skin Tightening method has many advantages over cosmetic surgery which makes it an increasingly popular treatment. There is no cutting of the skin, no stitches, anesthesia or risk of infection and you can return to work right away. Unlike painful and invasive laser treatments, needling, or slow results treatments like radio frequency or peels that must be repeated often, your treatment plan is one treatment, your treatment time is about 1 hour, your healing time is 1 week, pain level is minimal and results are instant!

This incredibly accurate device creates a plasma arc that jumps from the probe to the skin, burning the epidermis to the dermal juncture and instantly shrinks the targeted area. The tissue retraction and tightening during healing gives results that are comparable to invasive surgery.

WHAT IS IT USED TO TREAT

Plasma Pen Skin Tightening is able to treat a number of imperfections without any actual cutting of the skin. It can be used for:

  • Eyelid tightening, including lower eyelids and excess upper eyelid skin.
  • Skin imperfections, including skin tags and spider veins.
  • Improvement in the appearance of acne scars.
  • Diminishing stretch marks.
  • Lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
  • Full Plasma Facelift and Plasma Neck-lift

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST

Plasma Pen Skin Tightening is more than a simple tightening treatment, small “dots” of skin are removed, so the effects should last as long as they would with invasive surgery, up to 5 years!

The introduction to heat in the skin during your treatment will also stimulate your fibroblasts which will help your skin to regenerate your own natural collagen resulting in ongoing skin tightening and toning benefits for up to 6 months post treatment!

Like all surgical and cosmetic procedures, the effects of plasma treatment are not entirely permanent as it does not stop any further ageing. We highly recommend a monthly facial routine and quality home care products with SPF to maintain your results long term.

The positive effects of treatment will be noticeable immediately after the first treatment, but the best results will be seen after 4 weeks. For some, an additional treatment may be required for maximum results. Additionally, there are lifestyle factors that can prevent the result from lasting as long as they can, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, prolonged sun exposure and not using quality makeup and skin care products. Those planning on treatment should also be aware that their race and genetics can also have an effect of the length of beneficial effects and for those with darker skin, that may prevent the treatment from being able to be done.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED

The number of treatments required will vary according to the condition being treated, your skin's laxity, the desired degree of correction and the individual’s response to the treatment. Most clients see results instantly and this continues to improve over the course of the following 6 months. Further treatments can be carried out to get better results, although it is uncommon to require more than two treatments. Appointments must be spaced out by 8 weeks.

WHAT TO EXPECT - SIDE EFFECTS AND RISKS

Plasma Pen Skin Tightening has been shown to be a safe treatment due to its non-invasive nature. Still the majority of clients are likely to experience some minor side effects in the 7-10 days following treatment.

There will be brown “dots” and/or lines that have the appearance of minor scabbing, which are carbon crusts, but in 7-10 days these will flake away, revealing new pink skin beneath. Some swelling will be seen (especially in cases of eyelid treatment), but it is likely to only last 3 days, 5 days at most. To avoid any more serious side effects such as hyperpigmentation, follow the aftercare recommendations given to you by your technician. If you have a darker skin type or know that you are prone to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation or skin discoloration after a blemish then please contact the salon to purchase a pre-treatment product; that will help reduce the risk of pigment changes after your treatment.

IS PLASMA PEN SKIN TREATMENT FOR EVERYONE?

As with the majority of cosmetic procedures, Plasma Pen Skin Tightening should not be used on women who are pregnant or breast feeding. Although some darker skin types are suitable for a gentler version of this treatment, it is not advised for those with very dark skin. This is because there is a higher risk of hyperpigmentation (dark spots) or hypopigmentation (light spots) following treatment.

DAY OF TREATMENT

On the treatment day, it is recommended that no make-up is worn on the treatment area. A numbing agent is applied and left to take effect for about 20 min while we set up your service and complete all paperwork. (Please let us know if you have any known sensitivities to topical numbing solution.)

When the treatment area is sufficiently numb, the session begins with multiple connections of the plasma tip, spaced closely together. You may feel some heat in the treatment area, which may be uncomfortable and slightly irritating. Most clients experience little to no sensation on the face and a sensation that can approach a 7 on a pain scale from 1 to 10 around the eyes. Treatment time is usually between 60-90 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Immediately after treatment the area will be red and mildly swollen with small dots of crusty skin and discoloration. You may experience a sensation similar to a sun burn which will likely last a few hours. Swelling may intensify over the following few hours and more so when eyes are treated and may last 2-3 days. The small dots of crusty skin and discoloration should resolve within 5 -12 days depending on the individual and area treated. Results are seen instantly after the treatment, although this gradually improves over the course of the following 6 months.

Following treatment you will be given thorough aftercare instructions to ensure that you see the best results. You will also be given a treatment serum and SPF that is included in the price and must be used daily. In the week following treatment (or until the treatment area has fully healed) an exfoliating wash or cleanser should not be used. Keep your skin dry for the first 24 hours and then cleanse the skin with water and avoid rubbing the area and apply only approved serum to the treated area, no creams. SPF can be used AFTER crusts have come off.

The majority of people are safe to drive following their Plasma Pen Skin Tightening procedure as swelling does not set in until later that day.
